Production
Electricity in the GEN Group is produced using predominantly advanced zero- and low-carbon, environment-friendly technologies.
The Group companies together produce between 5,600 and 6,300 gigawatt-hours of electricity per year. This accounts for more than 40% of Slovenia's total electricity production. After Croatia gets its share of electricity from NEK, the production volume of the GEN Group accounts for around 30% of all electricity generated at Slovenia's power plants.
| GEN Group | 2011 | 2010 | 2009 | 2008 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Production od electricity (GWh) | 3,405 | 3,123 | 3,100 | 3,319 |
The volume of electricity produced depends largely on Krško Nuclear Power Plant's scheduled maintenance shutdown regimen, water levels of the Sava River and the scope of operation of TEB as a reliable backup energy source.
| Our electricity production portfolio is based primarily on the following sustainable and renewable energy sources: | |
|---|---|
| Nuclear power: | Krško Nuclear Power Plant – NEK |
| Hydropower: |
Savske elektrarne Ljubljana – SEL |
| Solar power: | Small-scale photovoltaic power plants (SPPs): SEL SPPs: Mavčiče SPP, Medvode SPP, Vrhovo SPP, Brestanica SPP |
A special role in the GEN Group is played by Brestanica Thermal Power Plant (TEB), which is fitted with two gas turbines powered by natural gas or extra light fuel oil and whose principal purpose is to intervene in the event of outages of larger generating units in the national electric power grid. It is a reliable energy source in the most critical of moments, delivering mostly tertiary control and peak-load power.
Our strategic objectives in the area of electricity production are to:
- ensure stable and secure operation of all our power plants,
- invest in the maintenance and modernization of our existing production facilities,
- expand our production capabilities with a special emphasis on nuclear, hydro and solar power,
- extend the life span of NEK.
Control Centre
The GEN Group Control Centre is responsible for ensuring optimal and quality production at all the Group's power plants and for making sure operation is cost-effective at the Group level. The control centre planners work together with GEN-I traders to draw up timetables, run and manage production dispatch services and track the consumption at the balance group level, develop production plans, make sure operational plans are followed through and that all deviations from the planned outputs are covered, and analyze the overall production of the GEN balance group.
