Trading
The GEN Group effectively carries out electricity trading services in the home and foreign markets. This function within the Group is fulfilled by the company GEN-I.
The GEN Group's elaborate cross-border volume trading infrastructure and the Group's strong bond with the international energy sphere give us access to a wide array of pricing data and information. We need this data and information to be able to optimally utilize our production resources and to competently manage all market risks.
The scope of electricity trading and sales in the Group is increasing, particularly in the field of volume trading in international markets.

In 2011 the GEN Group companies sold 4,178 GWh of electricity in the domestic market: 2,577 GWh to commercial customers, 174 GWh to households and small commercial customers (SCC) and 1,427 GWh to other buyers (OB), which also purchased electricity from GEN in order to satisfy household demand.
In 2011 13,917 GWh of electricity was saled abroad.
Our strategic objectives in the area of electricity trading and sales are to:
- increase the scope of electricity trading at energy exchanges of Western and Eastern Europe and the Balkan region,
- sell electricity directly to consumers in the neighbouring countries,
- secure hedging of electricity through derivative financial instruments at the energy exchange level (modern trading and risk management tools).
