GEN Group

The mission shared by all the GEN Group companies is to provide a reliable, safe and competitive electricity supply to various consumer profiles.

We generate electricity from sustainable, low-carbon energy sources:

  • nuclear power,
  • hydropower, and
  • solar power.

We effectively trade in electricity. We rely on our knowledge, professional approach and creative energy. We boast an effective array of functions for effective management of risks associated with electricity purchases, trading and sales. Thanks to a guaranteed provision of power and electricity, we give the Group's production sources access to reliable and steady income, while the parent company sees to the optimal sale of power and electricity all the way to consumers. Consumers receive a quality service in the form of a comprehensive supply of electricity and get access to optimized purchase channels.

Investments in the maintenance and optimization of existing, as well as the development of new, production facilities is another important strategic focus of the GEN Group. This is the only way we can provide enough electricity to help reduce Slovenia's reliance on imported energy. Co-investing in various new energy projects presents both a challenge and an opportunity for the GEN Group companies.

Short description and activity specifics NEK generates around 5,400 GWh of low-carbon electricity a year, making up around 40% of Slovenia's total electricity output. The GEN-I Group purchases electricity and natural gas from producers, trades in them both locally and internationally, and sells them to consumers. SEL's large hydroelectric power plants (Moste HPP, Mavčiče HPP, Medvode HPP, Vrhovo HPP) generate around 320 GWh of electricity a year.  TEB supplies electricity during outages of major production units and is a reliable standby power source within Slovenia's power grid.

Short description and activity specifics

The company HESS was established in 2008 with the purpose of facilitating the construction of hydroelectric power plants on the lower course of the River Sava.

HESS's already completed large hydroelectric power plants (Boštanj HPP, Arto - Blanca HPP, Krško HPP and Brežice HPP) generate around 577 GWh of electricity a year.

Operations of the company SRESA are still largely limited as the Concession Agreement for the use of water for electricity generation on the Ježica–Suhadol section of the River Sava remains unsigned. By acquiring a stake in ZEL-EN, the company GEN has become eligible to receive development funding from the ERDF for research in the field of nuclear power technology. The company ARJE provides services relevant both to the operation of the existing nuclear power plant (NEK) and the development, construction and operation of a new nuclear power plant (JEK 2).
